Literacy & Numeracy National Partnership Plan

Mary Immaculate Primary School is participating in the Literacy & Numeracy National Partnership Agreement. The school is fortunate to be supported with additional funding and/or resourcing for a four year period in order to improve student learning outcomes.

The National Partnership Agreement outlines three major reform areas that schools and schooling authorities are to focus on in order to create change and improvement.

These reform areas are:

  1. Strong Leadership – effective teams
  2. High expectations – focused teaching
  3. Differentiated intervention – improved learning

The overall aim of the program is to improve student learning outcomes in literacy and numeracy over a period of time.

The program at Mary Immaculate includes

  • the facilitation and provision of extra planning for classroom teachers with the Curriculum Support Teacher and the Literacy and Numeracy Project Officers (BCE) to address explicit strategies for the teaching of reading/writing and numeracy.
  • provision of professional learning for teachers and school officers within the school environment, eg. First Steps Reading
  • professional development for classroom and specialist teachers in Reading to Learn
  • ongoing planning with the Curriculum Support Teacher  [twice a term] to address explicit strategies for the teaching of literacy and numeracy
  • facilitating the implementation of more effective collection and use of assessment data to identify where support is needed
  • the purchase of resources to assist teachers in the provision of effective teaching and learning strategies in the classroom.
