Last week I had the privilege of spending 5 days and 4 nights with our Senior Leaders and their teacher, Mrs Nella Lewis, on the annual pilgrimage to chilly Canberra. The time away provided both Mrs Lewis and myself with the perfect opportunity to connect with our leaders in a different context to the one we experience daily at school. Once again we joined the staff and students of St Pius X, Salisbury for the trip which took in many educational offerings.
One of many highlights during the time away was our unexpected meeting with Australia’s Governor General, His Excellency the Honourable General Sir Peter Cosgrove. Our group was touring Government House early on Thursday morning when the Governor General took time out of his routine to meet with us for about twenty minutes. He spoke about his role, love for Australia and his passion and love of sport. He also ‘opened the floor’ for questions, with our students not hesitating in taking up the opportunity! This was a memorable moment for us all and one we wanted to share with you.
Once again the itinerary was ‘full on’ to say the least, with little downtime, but the group displayed tremendous resilience cold day after cold day. Their consistent engagement with all experiences and expectations was exceptional; true Active Learners in every sense! We were stopped on more than one occasion by members of the public wishing to provide Mrs Lewis and myself with affirmations about our students. As you can imagine, each occasion was a very proud moment for all of us!
