Multicultural Festival Success

Our Multicultural Festival was a special day of celebration for our community! It was wonderful to see so many of our families enjoying themselves and celebrating our cultural diversity under sunny skies. The success of the day is in no doubt a reflection of the leadership and energy of our Festival Convenor, Mrs Bridie Hankinson. It is a credit to Bridie and her ‘offsider’, and P & F President, Mrs Danni Banks, that the day ran so smoothly. The two are a formidable team who, so capably and passionately, lead the build-up over the past few months and weeks. We are so very grateful to both ladies for their enormous contributions! I spoke with our students seeking their feedback on the day. Kids are sometimes the best source of feedback as they ‘tell it how it is’! Below is a sample of some of the feedback they provided….in their words:

‘I loved seeing the teachers get dunked!’ (Prep Student)

‘I loved how some of the rides were in the carpark this year as it gave us more room to move about with our friends’ (Year 1 student)

‘The day was a 10 out of 10 because I got to hang out with my friends and go on the awesome rides! My favourite ride was the Pirate Ship’ (Year 2 Student)

‘Everything about the day was amazing! My friends and I got our faces painted and tried lots of yummy food’ (Year 3 Student’)

‘My friends and I watched the Irish Dancers and the Indigenous performers. They were so cool and we got to have a go as well! It’s harder than you think!’ (Year 4 Student)

‘Antonia from my class, and her mum and dad performed on the day. They are so amazing and Antonia was so confident! The music they played was beautiful to listen to.’ (Year 5 Student)

‘This was my last and best Multicultural Festival! I’ll definitely be back for the next one!’ (Year 6 Student)

The success of the day depends largely on the support of our parents. We are so very grateful to the number of parents and families who supported or contributed to the day in some capacity. Your contributions were so generous, and we are so enormously appreciative! I’d like to especially acknowledge and thank, Mr Bruce Hankinson for his tremendous support in ensuring the event was safe and incident free, and for his awesome efforts on the microphone as MC! A special thank-you also to the amazing support of the Mary Immaculate Staff Team who helped on the day in a variety of ways. Worthy of a special mention is Mrs Lewis and Mrs Delaney, who gave the community great pleasure in seeing them both get ‘dunked’!
