Earlier this year a suggestion was made via the P and F that the Mary Immaculate School Community considers an addition to the school uniform for girls in Years 1 to 6. Specifically, the addition would be to add a two-piece formal uniform option for the female students (blouse & culottes/skorts). The addition of the two-piece uniform was suggested to allow the girls a uniform option that enables full participation in all school activities on all days of the week. The suggested two-piece uniform is designed to help protect modesty and allow for greater freedom of movement when being Active Learners (eg – monkey bars, climbing equipment and the many sporting endeavours that occupy the lunch breaks of the students, not to mention sitting on the floor in classes, assembly etc).
The school’s Leadership Team consulted with the P & F and School Board to progress the conversation with all in support of the modification. The addition of the two-piece is not designed to replace the dresses currently worn, as there are students and families who feel more comfortable with dresses. It is not compulsory for any family to purchase the two-piece, knowing that some families only have a year or so left for their daughters as students of Mary Immaculate as well as personal preferences. The modification is only to provide another option for those who would like to use it. The new option will be available for the 2017 school year.
I would like to acknowledge and thank the tremendous efforts of Year 5 parent Mrs Jackie Kelly who has been the ‘driving force’ behind the uniform modification. Jackie has thoroughly researched all possible options with the end result being a great fit! For those wishing to view the new option, a sample is available in the front office.
Jacki has also put together an ‘Expressions of Interest’ form for those parents wishing to explore the option.
