Welcome To Mary Immaculate

Message from the Principalhttp://www.maryimmaculate.qld.edu.au/About Us/Pages/Message-from-the-Principal.aspxMessage from the Principal
Dear Parents and Friends,

Welcome to our school community at Mary Immaculate, Annerley. We thank you for allowing us to share with you the privilege of educating your child. Mary Immaculate has a rich tradition of providing an inclusive Catholic education to the families of Annerley and beyond. It is a school blessed for many years with the dedication of the Sisters of St Joseph. Today we strive to carry on their legacy while bringing to it our own unique gifts and insights.

We consider it an honour to be involved in your child’s education. Our vision for education is expressed in our Vision and Mission Statements. Each expresses the sacredness of the individual within the community, the sacredness of our relationships with each other, with the earth and with God, while learning to be responsible active participants in the world.

This learning community is gifted with families from diverse social and cultural backgrounds as well as many faith traditions. Together we seek to form a life giving learning community that seeks to build a more just world through a quality education. We welcome and encourage the involvement of parents and look forward to developing a positive partnership with you. May God bless us in our work together!

Ms Lagi Aukusitino

PRINCIPAL

School Officer Day 2018http://www.maryimmaculate.qld.edu.au/latest-news/Pages/School-Officer-Day-2018.aspxSchool Officer Day 2018
The commonly used saying 'it takes a village to raise a child' is an appropriate phrase to use when describing the many staff members that contribute to providing quality Catholic education at Mary Immaculate. Often the 'spotlight' is on the contributions of teaching staff. This is understandable given that education is our 'core business' and our teachers lead the progression of learning for each child in our community.

We can never, however, underestimate the contributions made by non-teaching staff. Often working behind the scenes, their contributions are enormous! Next Wednesday 13th June is School Officer Day, a day to celebrate the contributions of school support staff. On this day we acknowledge the skills, professionalism and commitment of our School Officers. Our dedicated School Officers (Secretaries and Teacher Assistants) support our students and teaching staff in many ways. One thing is for sure; we can never underestimate their contributions! Having worked in five other school communities, I can say with great authenticity and confidence that our school officers are second to none! On behalf of our community would like to recognise amazing contributions of:

Bernadette Stone (Front Office Secretary)

Laura Richards (Finance Secretary)

Charmaine Coles (Teacher Assistant and Library Assistant)

Christina England (Prep Teacher Assistant)

Amanda de Kretser (Teacher Assistant)

Katrina Crew (Teacher Assistant)

Belinda Drummond (Teacher Assistant)

Qld Health Influenza Informationhttp://www.maryimmaculate.qld.edu.au/latest-news/Pages/Qld-Health-Influenza-Information.aspxQld Health Influenza Information
Queensland Health wants to share these important flu facts with our school community:

Flu is dangerous for everyone, but particularly for children. During 2017, there were over 56,000 cases of confirmed cases of influenza in Queensland, of which over 10,000 were in children under ten years of age. Having an annual flu vaccine will help keep you, your family and the community healthy this flu season.

Visit: http://conditions.health.qld.gov.au/HealthCondition/condition/14/217/82/Influenza-The-Flu

Flu strains change each year and there is a new flu vaccine every year because flu viruses mutate easily and often. Flu spreads easily between people, particularly children.

You can get flu by either breathing in droplets that are infected with flu virus or from touching a surface or object that has flu virus on it and then touching your own mouth, nose or eyes.

Young children are more likely to spread flu because they tend to have greater contact with others, are infectious for longer than an average adult, and may not always cover their mouths when coughing and sneezing or wash their hands often enough. They are super-spreaders.

If you (or your child) are unwell, stay home until better.

Flu causes adults and children to miss out on their regular activities, such as attending school, work, family outings, sporting events or just hanging out with friends. Anyone with the flu should stay home, rest and recover for about 7 – 10 days.

We can all make a difference. Remember it is not 'just the flu', it is a serious disease. Having an annual flu vaccine will help keep you, your family and the community healthy this flu season.
