Welcome To Mary Immaculate

Message from the Principalhttp://www.maryimmaculate.qld.edu.au/About Us/Pages/Message-from-the-Principal.aspxMessage from the Principal
Dear Parents and Friends,

Welcome to our school community at Mary Immaculate, Annerley. We thank you for allowing us to share with you the privilege of educating your child. Mary Immaculate has a rich tradition of providing an inclusive Catholic education to the families of Annerley and beyond. It is a school blessed for many years with the dedication of the Sisters of St Joseph. Today we strive to carry on their legacy while bringing to it our own unique gifts and insights.

We consider it an honour to be involved in your child’s education. Our vision for education is expressed in our Vision and Mission Statements. Each expresses the sacredness of the individual within the community, the sacredness of our relationships with each other, with the earth and with God, while learning to be responsible active participants in the world.

This learning community is gifted with families from diverse social and cultural backgrounds as well as many faith traditions. Together we seek to form a life giving learning community that seeks to build a more just world through a quality education. We welcome and encourage the involvement of parents and look forward to developing a positive partnership with you. May God bless us in our work together!

Mike Armstrong

PRINCIPAL

Seesaw making Learning Visible at MIA!http://www.maryimmaculate.qld.edu.au/latest-news/Pages/Seesaw-making-Learning-Visible-at-MIA!.aspxSeesaw making Learning Visible at MIA!
This year, we have a whole school focus on optimising Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to enhance learning and teaching across the school. The generosity of the P & F has enabled us to provide every child in every class with access to an iPad. This level of access is incredible for a small school and one that we are very grateful for!

As you are aware, we have adopted Seesaw as our ICT digital environment and or platform for learning. It is providing us with a consistent way of working across the school to ensure that we are making the most of our wonderful access to ICT. As Principal, I'm very excited and very pleased by the level of engagement with Seesaw across the community! Teachers, students and parents have all embraced this new way of working and sharing of learning.

ICT plays an important in learning. In the Australian Curriculum, students develop Information and Communication Technology (ICT) capability as they learn to use ICT effectively and appropriately to access, create and communicate information and ideas, solve problems and work collaboratively in all learning areas at school. ICT capability involves students learning to make the most of the digital technologies available to them, adapting to new ways of doing things as technologies evolve and limiting the risks to themselves and others in a digital environment.

I'd like to take this opportunity to acknowledge our Teacher Librarian, Mrs Leanne Delaney, for her tremendous efforts in supporting the implementation of Seesaw across the school community! Mrs Delaney is passionate about the use of ICT to engage learners. She works with every class, co-planning and co-teaching with all classroom teachers to help build their capacity.

Harmony Dayhttp://www.maryimmaculate.qld.edu.au/latest-news/Pages/Harmony-Day.aspxHarmony Day
Our school community will focus on a topic that is close to the hearts of all of us as parents and as former students of schools - Harmony Week with a particular focus on 'Anti-bullying'. Every day is anti-bullying day at school and this is an ongoing challenge. How do we teach our children to be strong and resilient, and while still being caring and gentle? How do we encourage our children not to be bystanders and watch others be treated poorly? It takes a whole community to recognise this challenge across all aspects of society, workplaces, homes and institutions. Our school is constantly creating and re-creating a positive harmonious culture. We are all heavily invested in building and sustaining this culture, of way of being. Safety and wellbeing are essential for learning to take place. Please watch out for our 'Harmony Week' focus activities.

Wellness Weekhttp://www.maryimmaculate.qld.edu.au/latest-news/Pages/Wellness-Week.aspxWellness Week
Term 1 Week 7 is our inaugural Wellness Week. The purpose of the week is to put wellbeing 'under the spotlight' and provide opportunities for learning and dialogue on the significance of nurturing one's body, mind and soul. There is a seamless connection with our Catholic spirituality and this year's theme on gratitude.

Practising gratitude should be an essential part of our spirituality and wellbeing. People who regularly nurture their wellbeing and spirituality, experience more positive emotions, feel more alive, sleep better, express more compassion and kindness, and even have stronger immune systems.
